I've been thinking about the 50last lately. Re-read some of the comics, saw The Force Awakens twice, been playing the new Battlefront. Maybe it's time for... an awakening. Finn is a shoe-in.

So, you can now follow the 50last on Twitter. At least, you can TRY. They're not very easy to follow.
I am very careful, hesitantly putting the pen back to the pages of the 50last. Maybe. No promises.
I read through all the comics and profiles and side art today and I was enchanted. Every page is different. Some pages were done in pen, some were in sharpie, some where in colored pencil, some where in Photoshop, and one or two images were water color. The comic looks like shit in a lot of ways. There are these hideous Photoshop default gradients in the skies and in the backgrounds of the panels. You can't read half of what the characters are saying because of the font or background color or total absence of a speech bubble.
And yet, there is charm. Maybe it's because the 50last are like family to me, but there's something endearing about the chaos of it all. I was so ignorant of the way comics are "supposed" to be that I was free to create however I wanted, totally unrestricted by the rules. In some cases, I produced unreadable shit. In other cases, I struck fucking gold.

Of the first 100+ comics, there are very, very few that are passable as "good, traditional comic pages". There aren't many that combine good art, layout, text, and humor. Granted, over time they all improved, but they never really got to the point of great. They were getting close, which is when I went to college. I have a lot to live up to now.

Update
So here's the news! I had my birthday last week, during which I received some pretty awesome gifts. The most outstanding of the small but fantastic bunch was a hoodie with the 50last Anniversary Art airbrushed on the back and BF on the front with my name underneath. I have my ultra-amazing boyfriend to thank for that one! 
My OTHER kick-ass gift was a Bamboo Tablet, 3 x 5. Woo! FINALLY!! It's a little black dream come true! And, as it so happens, my Adobe Suite arrived the day before my birthday (over a month after I ordered it from Adobe. Never order directly from Adobe, go to Journey Ed or Academic Superstore to get student discounts on products.)
In OTHER words, I'm gonna be getting back into the 50last swing of things. I want to take the next couple weeks to finish 106(FINALLY) and move on to getting around to 104 and 107. I realize, yes, it's all long overdue!!

PS: I also got V for Vendetta on DVD and the original V for Vendetta graphic novel, which was very different from the movie and delivers a similar but certainly separate message from the one in the movie. I've been wanting to start working on a graphic of my own, but I need a concrete and original story first.

Update
Okay, there's been a change of plans everyone. I lost my camp counselor job because the camp didn't have as many campers signing up as they expected. @___@. THAT was disappointing. *SIGH*
Anyway, I'm waiting for Adobe to deliver my Student Edition of CS4 Creative Suite 4, which has Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and more for an insanely low price. (Suspiciously low...) It took a MONTH of fighting with Customer Service to get my student ID approved, but they've finally approved it and it should be here sometime next week, at the earliest.
Speaking of next week, that's when I'm having my BIRTHDAY!!!
